My MIL's hardwork - Dumpling 粽子

Though the 60+ old lady just came back from a tiring trip to Batam, she still makes an effort to wrap dumplings 粽子 for her family.

Though the quantity is much lesser than previous years, guessed she is too tired, I hope everyone in the family can feel her 'heart' work with every bite on her yummy dumplings 粽子.

Thank you MIL. *hugs*

Every Song reminds me of a person, an event, a place, a smell, a taste....a secret, do you have a song to share today?

Wide Awake ~ Katy Perry

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake

I'm wide awake
Yeah, I was in the dark
I was falling hard
With an open heart
I'm wide awake
How did I read the stars so wrong

I'm wide awake
And now it's clear to me
That everything you see
Ain't always what it seems
I'm wide awake
Yeah, I was dreaming for so long

I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn't dive in
Wouldn't bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete

Falling from cloud nine
Crashing from the high
I'm letting go tonight
Yeah I'm Falling from cloud nine

I'm wide awake
Not losing any sleep
I Picked up every piece
And landed on my feet
I'm wide awake
Need nothing to complete myself - noooooo

I'm wide awake
Yeah, I am born again
Outta the lion's den
I don't have to pretend
And it's too late
The story's over now
the end

I wish I knew then
What I know now
Wouldn't dive in
Wouldn't bow down
Gravity hurts
You made it so sweet
Till I woke up on
On the concrete

Falling from cloud nine
(It was out of the blue, I'm)
Crashing from the high
I'm letting go tonight
(yeah, I'm letting you go)

I'm Falling from cloud nine

I'm wide awake
Thunder rumbling
Castles crumbling
I'm wide awake
I am trying to hold on
I'm wide awake
God knows that I tried
Seeing the bright side
I'm wide awake
I'm not blind anymore...
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake

Yeah, I'm Falling from cloud nine
(It was out of the blue, I'm)
Crashing from the high
You know I'm letting go tonight
 (yeah, I'm letting you go)
I'm Falling from cloud nine

I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake
I'm wide awake

Song Sharing Sunday #178 - A Father's Love (story)

Today is Father's Day and I asked the father of my boys, "What song would you like to hear?"

"Grandpa Grandma song" was the immediate answer. That was the very FIRST song I posted when I started this Song Sharing Sunday meme. See post here: "Song Sharing Sunday #1"

But I had something else on mind, I wanted to find a song that describes my children's father, but could not find any, or my music-encyclopedia is not good enough. So today, I decided to post this story. 'Cos when I first saw this video, I see that magnificent love in my boys' dad too......

My boys + my BIG boy love to watch Dragon Ball Z Kai.

Dragon Ball Z Kai Theme Song

Mysteries abound
Made of a deep energy (energy)
Foes all around
But I will go
Fearless and free.

I'll give you strength
You give me love
That's how we'll live (that's how we'll live)

My courage won't fade
If you're with me
My enemies will never win

We will fight for love and glory
We will live to tell the story
There is nothing we can't live through
Nothing ever dies
We will rise again

Don't stop
Don't stop
We're in luck now
Don't stop
There's so much to be found
We can find paradise
All we have to do is go go
Free your soul

A sight not for the Faint-Hearted

We went to Johor Bahru, Malaysia on Monday, 4th June 2012 and we went again today 7th June 2012.

Monday, 4th June 2012:
When we were at Bukit Indah checking out the prices of the toilet accessories, we saw a dead dog on its back by the roadside.
Its four legs were pointing to the heavens.
It was motionless.

As our car approached nearer.....
I put my left hand to my heart and my right hand to my mouth....
"Oh my gosh! Oh my gosh! Its dead and decomposing!"

I could NOT see the head and the maggots (Zillions of them!!!) WERE FEASTING ON THE NECK!

It was dead and probably for some time already...

A gush of sadness filled me.
I felt like tearing.
This is not the first time I am in Bukit Indah. I had been here several times and had remember seeing big stray dogs playing around the vicinity.
My heart kept repeating, "It must be one of them, it must be...."
Somehow, to me, those dogs had become one of the many icons in Bukit Indah, strolling by those rows and rows of glittering crystal lit shops.

We did NOT stop the car nor go back to check on the dead dog as we were on a tight schedule.

Thursday, 7th June 2012
Today, we drove on that road again.
As we drove nearer to where the dead dog lay,
I could NOT see ANY LEGS pointing to the sky and I assumed that the cleaners might have got rid of it.

OH MY GOSH!!!

No one cleared the carcass!
Its STILL there, BUT DOWN TO JUST SKIN AND FUR and bone!!!!

The ONLY PART THAT is still gooey was the butt and thigh of one of the hind legs.

This time, the father (who had lived with the smell of a decomposing corpse for a couple of days in the past) puts on a brave face, agreed to bring the EXTREMELY inquisitive kids to get up close and personal with the mess; while I stayed in the car.....'cos I feared I would really tear....

And they came back with this photo:
(head on the right side)

I'm sorry if this had spoilt your appetite.
The smell did spoil ours,

today.......

Song Sharing Sunday #176 - Call Me Maybe ~ Carly Rae Jepsen

My eldest niece loves to sing and be surrounded by music.
Ever since she went crazy over K-pop for a year or more, I hardly hear her sing any English or Chinese songs anymore.
This is the first English song I heard her sing after such a 'long break' from it.

肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh in JB, Malaysia.

With our twice a week visit to Johor Bahru (JB), Malaysia, we are starting to explore deeper and into the small lanes.

During one of our exploration, we chanced upon this 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh shop.

They were newly open when we first discovered it last month; and since then, we had been going there all the time! *thumbs up*

It is NOT easy for my picky-eater (elder son, KK) to like something that is NOT in the western food category, but he loves this!
I was pleasantly surprised because the 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh that is sold here is unlike the ones we have in Singapore.

"I am very hungry!!!" grumbled KK
肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh in Singapore are usually peppery and spicy, but this 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh is more herbal. In fact, the herbal taste in the soup is pretty strong (in my opinion), especially after it goes down the throat; which explains my surprise even more, as he does not like anything herbal at all, but he SIMPLY adores this!

We had been going JB during weekdays, afternoon, when my younger son is in school. so today is our fifth visit but my younger son's first visit. Sad to say, he does not like it.

Hhhmmm.... guess we would only visit this place again after school reopens, when he is not with us.

Other than the taste of the soup is different from Singapore, the 'meat' in the 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh are different too. For photo shoot purpose, I took one piece of each type out:

At the end of each fulfilling 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh meal, we would order the shop's recommended drink, 爱玉冰。It tastes very much like Lime Juice (maybe it is, I didn't ask) but it has yummy wobbly JELLY on top of the liquid (and ice), which makes it more like a dessert to me and an extremely thirst quenching choice! *thumbs up*

I did not take a photo of the shop because it is located along a busy street which constantly have cars zooming by, hence blocking the shop's front view.

It is located OPPOSITE of the entrance into the multi-storey carpark of THE STORE at Taman Sentosa.

Our bill in RM:

Based on our exchange rate of 2.44, this worked out to be SGD$20.45.
1 big pot of 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh, 2 bowls of you-tiao, 4 bowls of rice, 1 can drink and 2 cups of 爱玉冰.

Warning: if you like spicy, peppery type of 肉骨茶 Bak Kut Teh, then this is NOT for you. *wink*
