Vietnam Pho in Johor Bahru

Since our visit to Vietnam, almost a year ago, we had missed Vietnam Pho till this day.
Yet, our cravings were somewhat satisfied when we chance upon Ana Vietnam Cafe in Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The cafe is located OPPOSITE THE STORE at Taman Sentosa. The shop is facing the entrance which leads to the multi-storey carpark of THE STORE.

This is run by a group of Vietnamese.
Thus they speak Vietnamese or Chinese with Vietnamese accent only, no English please.
First experience was really good.
The soup was really savoury and the meat was tender!
Each bowl cost RM10.

As it is their culture to eat lots of vegetables, my bowl of Vietnamese Beef Pho was almost completely covered with greens!
*laugh*

After that experience, I would request for ZERO vegetables on my bowl of pho.
This was how it looked like (without the vegetables) when we first discovered this place in October last year.

I have lost count how many times hubby and I went there for brunch after that first visit and were rather surprise that the taste and presentation differs slightly on each visit, as the chef is different every time.

Seriously, this place makes me feel like a family business, and their mentally makes me feel like they were cooking for family members, instead of running a business.

Whoever is free at that time, will do the cooking.

So if you are thinking of checking this place, do not expect restaurant type of service.
It really feels more homely.
Like how you would feel when your relative or mother cooks for you.

The photo below was taken before February 2014 ended.

Is the difference obvious?!
You bet!
And so is the taste too!

Somehow, no matter how different the tastes may change each time, it still feels CLOSER to the taste we remembered when we were in Ho Chin Minh city last year, as compared to the long-queued Vietnamese restaurants, which we had tried in Singapore.

We are so in loved with Vietnam Beef Pho that we even asked our good friend to bring some INSTANT ones back from Vietnam, whenever he comes back to Singapore.
*laugh*
